Thank You!

In May 2014, after several months of renovation works that spurred the visitors’ curiosity, the Grade II listed reading room reopened to the public. A former ballroom dating back from the 1930s, its Versailles parquet flooring, shell-shaped lamps and pastel glass stained windows make it unmistakable. Our primary goal was to bring it back to life and to pair a skilful restoration of its old features with a hint of modernity. This is why, whether you come to our reading room to browse our collections, find peace and quiet or attend one of our cultural events, you will enjoy comfortable, contemporary furniture and brand new audiovisual equipment in a preserved heritage setting.
The reopening was the occasion of a grand celebration, which was followed by a range of various events, from theatrical performances to academic conferences and literary talks.

The reading room of La Médiathèque perfectly illustrates what generosity can achieve. For the Institut français and the The Friends of the French Institute Trust, this is an encouragement to go further and to go on with the fundraising effort.
