Annie Ernaux

French writer Annie Ernaux has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature on 6 October “for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory”.

Annie Ernaux has left a lasting mark in the world of contemporary literature, with haunting and poignant novels that are available at La Médiathèque.

She received multiple accolades for such works as La Place (Prix Renaudot), Les Années (Prix Marguerite Duras, Prix François-Mauriac), the translation of which was also shortlisted in 2019 for the Man Booker International Prize. On this occasion, she gave an interview with her translator Alison Strayer at the Institut français.

Don’t miss our special evening dedicated to her on 8 Dec with a book club exploring her novel Happening and the screening of its award-winning adaptation by Audrey Diwan (see below).
