Teacher’s Trail
The Teacher’s Trail is the Institut français du Royaume-Uni’s continuing professional development programme for teachers of French in the United-Kingdom. This programme aims at supporting future teachers, newly qualified and qualified teachers of French throughout their teaching career.
Every year, training opportunities are offered online and face to face all over the country.
Formation d’été des enseignants de français – BELC Royaume-Uni 2023

Eligibility: Language coordinators and practitioners who teach French in the UK, Channel Islands and the ROI.
Content: The Institut français du Royaume-Uni and France Éducation international are organising a one-week training course in London where participants will be able to take part in multiple workshops intended to continue to develop their professional practices and to support their dynamic career projects to guarantee the success of all students in French. Side events and cultural activities will also be offered to allow participants to meet and share good practices.

2023 French Summer School for Primary School Teachers
Date: Monday 7th August – Friday 11th August 2023

Eligibility: Primary school teachers of French and non-specialist primary school teachers of French living in the UK and working in UK schools
Content: The Institut français du Royaume-Uni and l’Alliance française de Rouen are organising a one-week training course for non-specialist primary school teachers of French who would like to build up their confidence in the language. Participants are limited to 10 people. The selected participants will be hosted by a French host-family and will follow a 20-hour French course in a language school – participants will then be joining a class corresponding to their level.
Fees: training fees, breakfast and accommodation in a French host-family are covered by the Institut français du Royaume-Uni. Travel expenses will be incurred by the participant.

Primary French Teachers – Explore Phonics with the Primary French Project
Date: Saturday 30 September 2023, 9:00 – 13:00

Workshop description: Participants will be offered to explore a range of phonemes that are highlighted in the Primary French Project, together with the graphemes that represent them. They will then be invited to look at how this focus can aid with pronunciation, fluency in reading, spelling, and written accuracy. Grammar in the Primary French Project will also be mentioned.

The Primary French Project
The Primary French Project provides free teaching materials that aim to train all who teach French at KS2. Suitable for all practitioners, including those who have no prior knowledge of the language, and also specialist linguists who are new to teaching children in KS2, the materials aim to train the teacher by providing the subject knowledge and classroom methodology that are needed in order to meet the requirements of the Programme of Study for Languages in KS2, as well as transition into KS3.
