Fri 2 - Sun 25 Jun

Le Mépris

Contempt

103 mins

in French with English subtitles

France / Italy | 1963 | col | dir. Jean-Luc Godard, with Brigitte Bardot, Michel Piccoli, Jack Palance, Fritz Lang | 4K Restoration

Unusually cast and playfully shot, Godard’s masterly hymn to cinema features Michel Piccoli and Brigitte Bardot as a couple whose marriage begins to fall apart while they are both on the island of Capri during the shooting of a film directed by Fritz Lang. As Camille, Bardot splendidly chips the male clichés over women in this legendary part.

The screening on Sun 4 June at 11.45am will be introduced by Film Critic and Programmer Roberto Oggiano and followed by a relaxed, collective discussion with the audience, as part of our new monthly film club, Finally Sunday. No booking is necessary (it’s free to attend), you just need to buy a ticket to the film.
