Sight and Sound Greatest Films of All Time

Festivals & Series

In 1952 and every decade since, the Sight and Sound team has asked critics to name the greatest films of all time. The tradition increased in size and prestige as the decades passed.

The Sight and Sound poll is now a major bellwether of critical opinion on cinema and the 2022 edition is the largest ever, with 1,639 participating critics, programmers, curators, archivists and academics each submitting their top ten ballot. For the first time since 1952, a film by a female director made it to the top in the 2022 poll: Chantal Akerman’s Jeanne Dielman 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles was voted best film of all times.

As films are best seen on a big screen, Ciné Lumière will play a selection of French and Francophone titles from the list of best films ever made.
