Now diligently and wonderfully restored, audiences can once again enjoy Jacques Tati’s masterpiece, Playtime, considered by many as his most daring film. Taking ten years to prepare and make, Playtime is an epic comic creation based on the simplest of ideas – the observation of a group of tourists travelling through a modern urban environment. To realise his vision, Tati created his own world, a miniature Paris constructed on an area of waste ground in Vincennes. He set out to show the excesses of modern architecture, but paradoxically Playtime‘s dazzling visuals also show us its beauty.
