The Passengers of the Night

With Passengers of the Night, presented in Official Competition at the Berlin Film Festival, Mikhäel Hers (Amanda) paints the beautifully detailed and gentle journey of a Parisian family as they find meaning and grace through time and encounters. On election night in 1981, celebrations spill out onto the street with a feeling of hope and change throughout Paris. Elisabeth (Charlotte Gainsbourg)’s marriage, however, is coming to an end and she will now have to support herself and her two teenage children. She finds work at a late-night radio show run by a mesmerizing Vanda (Emmanuelle Béart). There, she encounters a troubled teenager, Talulah, whom she invites into her home. Talulah will experience the warmth of a family for the first time. Although she suddenly disappears, her free spirit has a lasting influence on Elisabeth and her children.
