Master tailor Halim (Saleh Bakri) and his wife Mina (Lubna Azabal) run a traditional caftan store in one of Morocco’s oldest medinas, in the town of Salé. In order to keep up with demanding customers, they hire a talented young man as an apprentice (Ayoub Missioui), to whom Halim, secretly gay, finds himself attracted. Morocco’s submission to the 2023 Academy Awards, The Blue Caftan exudes a warm, often humorous chemistry while presenting the beauty and challenges of being a crafts person in today’s world.
