Black Paris: Fact & Fiction

As part of Black History Month, Ciné Lumière is presenting a film series dedicated to Paris during the Jazz Age. Paris Blues (1961) and the documentary Paris Noir (2017) show how Paris was not only the city of artistic expression, cultural renaissance, and radical politics but also a city where African-American writers, intellectuals, musicians and performers such as such as Josephine baker, Langston Hughes, Ada “Bricktop” Smith and James Baldwin, came together and made history.

This series is curated by Karen Alexander and presented as part of Cinema Rediscovered on Tour, a Watershed project in collaboration with Park Circus. With support from BFI awarding funds from The National Lottery and MUBI.
