French Pop Video Competition
The French Pop Video Competition is a national competition organised by Francophonie UK in association with the Institut français du Royaume-Uni and supported by TV5Monde.
Since 2019, the competition has revealed many talented young singers and encouraged students to engage with French in a creative way. From the writing of a song to its singing (or rapping!) and video shooting, former participants have expressed how empowered the contest has made them feel. In 2022, 49 music videos were shot gathering more than 300 primary and secondary students from all over the UK!
WHAT THE COMPETITION OFFERS
With the French Pop Video Competition, students get the chance to practice French in a very different and fun way. Not only do they improve their writing skills and enrich their vocabulary by creating their own lyrics, but they also practice their speaking skills while shooting the video and create lifelong memories related to their French class.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Primary and secondary schools’ students enrolled in the UK school system can join the French Pop Video Competition as a class, a group with the help of their teachers or on their own. To do so:
- Register on Eventbrite by 10th March 2023 to enter the competition,
- Create your song (music and lyrics) and shoot a video,
- Send us your music video to projects-education@institut-francais.org.uk by 2nd June 2023 along with the entry form and consent forms.
Once videos have been received, regional juries will select regional winners based on the quality of the lyrics and the music, and the originality of video. Regional winners’ music videos will then enter the national competition. Grand national winners will be announced in the week of the 21st of June (World Music Day!) during an official ceremony followed by a pop concert at the Institut français du Royaume-Uni in London. Grand national winners and regional winners will receive their prize (or be sent their prize) after the ceremony.
